Our approach to education
Core + Electives
Our daily flow includes 4 Phases of Learning: Connect, Conquer, Create & Collaborate. These 4 phases will be intermixed with lots of outside and free play.
T/Th Students will get Core + Enrichment/Interest-led projects.
Wednesday Students will get engaging Enrichment Activities, and explore interes-led projects.
If you are enrolled in the 2 or 3 day options, families will receive take-home lessons in Language Arts & Math to complete before the following week.
Core
During our Connect and Conquer time, students will set goals in core subjects and achieve them through independent and group learning.
Core subjects include:
- Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
1
Connect
After beginning the morning with outside free play, our program will begin with connection. This is where the students get to share with the teachers and with one another about what’s happening in their lives, and the things they would like to focus on for the day. This might include playing a game, sharing a project, or adding things to their Learning Path board.
2
Conquer
We will focus on all core subjects in the morning, while brains are sharp and most focused! This block of time will include Language Arts, Math, and a History/Science rotation. Students will be grouped by ability and can work at their own pace while the teachers flow from group to group as needed. Each student will establish their own Learning Path for all subjects and areas of interest, with regular check-ins and adjustments with the teacher as needed. The students will be encouraged to set small and big goals and work towards those goals each day.
Enrichment
During our Create & Collaborate time, students will explore various areas of interest on a rotation schedule. Occasionally an outside field expert will be brought in as a guide. Project-Based Learning will be implemented.
Enrichment Focuses:
- Mixed Media Art
- Digital Media
- Music
- STEM
- Theater Art
- 3D Printing
- Entrepreneurship
3
Create
The afternoon enrichment time will focus on creativity and collaboration. We will use Project-Based Learning as our guide, as students explore various areas of interest.
4
Collaborate
Learners will have opportunities for individual projects as well as group-oriented projects. We will focus in area for 4-6 weeks at a time, culminating in a parent-presentation at the end of each project.
Our Educational Values
01
Pursuit of passions
We firmly believe that learning is life. The two are intertwined. Children are born natural learners, and it brings them joy! We want to continue igniting that joy by nurturing student’s interests and passions. Once foundational reading, writing and basic math has been established, the pursuit of one’s passion should be the main goal in education.
02
Project Based Learning
At the core of project based learning, is real world context. Through PBL, students engage in learning that is deep, long-lasting, and relevant to the challenges of their lives and the world they will inherit. The future will require deep thinkers and problem solvers, and we believe project-based learning cultivates such an individual.
03
innovation & creativity
We live in an extraordinary time of unprecedented opportunities. Technology is enabling us to do new and exciting things. Innovation – which really means combining existing things in new ways – is a core value in our education. All kids are natural creators and inventors. We will encourage and help facilitate their exciting ideas and creative pursuits.
