Our approach to education
Core + Student Interests
Academics
Students have a blend of independent and group learning in academic areas.
Core subjects include:
- Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
1
Morning Time
After beginning the morning with outside free play, our program begins with connection. This is where the students and teachers get to share with one another about what’s happening in their lives, and the things they would like to focus on for the day. This might include playing a game, sharing a project, reading a story, or journal time.
2
Mid-Day
After morning time, students have snack and free time. You can regularly find a group of kids outside playing a sport, climbing on the playground, building or creating something inside, or reading a book. We then jump into Math (small group learning and stations) before breaking for lunch and more free play.
Enrichment
Throughout the year, students will explore various areas of interests. Occasionally an outside field expert will be brought in as a guide.
Enrichment Focuses:
- Mixed Media Art
- Digital Media
- Music
- STEM
- Theater
- Entrepreneurship
3
Afternoon
Following lunch, we break into Language Arts for explicit instruction in small groups, engaging stations, IXL enrichment and whole group learning. This includes phonics (for those who need decoding practice), grammar, literature studies, spelling, comprehension, writing and critical thinking.
4
End of Day
After Language Arts, we break for free time before doing our Science or Social Studies rotation. Art is regularly woven into the week as well as other areas of interest.
Our Educational Values
01
Pursuit of passions
We firmly believe that learning is life. The two are intertwined. Children are born natural learners, and it brings them joy! We want to continue igniting that joy by nurturing student’s interests and passions. Once foundational reading, writing and basic math has been established, the pursuit of one’s passion should be the main goal in education.
02
Project Based Learning
At the core of project based learning, is real world context. Through PBL, students engage in learning that is deep, long-lasting, and relevant to the challenges of their lives and the world they will inherit. The future will require deep thinkers and problem solvers, and we believe project-based learning cultivates such an individual.
03
innovation & creativity
We live in an extraordinary time of unprecedented opportunities. Technology is enabling us to do new and exciting things. Innovation – which really means combining existing things in new ways – is a core value in our education. All kids are natural creators and inventors. We will encourage and help facilitate their exciting ideas and creative pursuits.
