Why mixed-aged learning?
There are many benefits to mixed-aged learning. Students do not all learn in an orderly, linear fashion. Not all 9 years olds are on the same learning path. In a mixed-age setting, students feel less pressure to compete with peers, have less anxiety about being behind, are less bored if they are more advanced, and learn empathy and compassion while having daily interactions with younger and older students.
Do my kids need to be registered homeschoolers?
Yes. We are operating as a learning center for registered homeschoolers. If you have not registered as a homeschooler before, no worries! It’s super easy in the state of Virginia. Our team will help you stay compliant each year with an end-of year evaluation to submit to the county. If you have more questions about registering your child as a homeschooler, feel free to reach out: hello@crozetcooperative.com
Do you have a dress code?
We have a loose code for two main reasons: safety and performance. We want students to dress comfortably, and seasonally appropriate for outdoor play without distracting elements (costumes, pjs, distracting accessories, upsetting words or pictures, etc.). We want our students to focus on creating meaningful relationships while pursuing excellence in their learning. Furthermore, having a separate pair of indoor-only shoes helps keep our indoor spaces clean.
Can you accommodate special needs or other behavioral orders?
No. We are absolutely committed to meeting each student’s social, emotional and intellectual needs, but unfortunately we are not equipped to assist with special needs or behavioral orders, etc. If your child is simply behind academically, reach out to discuss if this program would be a good fit!
Are there any required school supplies?
Aside from having the proper outdoor layers for inclement weather and a separate pair of indoor-only shoes, your registration fee will supply the necessary school items for each student.
Will staff be background checked?
Yes, all staff will be background checked.
Are you affiliated with any church or religion?
We are not.
What should my child bring each day?
All students will need a packed lunch + 2 snacks in a labeled lunch carrier of some form and a large water bottle – please only send water.
Dress in comfortable clothes and that meet our dress code.
All students are required to supply a separate pair of indoor-only shoes (for example: crocs/natives or other comfy slip-ons) that they will leave at school.
Will you expand each year?
That’s the plan! Ideally we will add a grade/age-group each year. We are currently trying to figure out a way to add Middle/HS enrichment classes on Fridays. Please fill out this form if you are interested in learning more about this offering.
